Subvarian BA4 dan BA5, dinilai, memiliki penurunan kemampuan terhadap terapi beberapa jenis antibody monklonal. Ia juga memiliki kemungkinan lolos dari perlindungan kekebalan yang disebabkan oleh Infeksi Varian Omicron.
‘Subvarian Omicron BA.4 dan BA.5 memiliki banyak mutasi yang sama dengan varian Omicron asli tetapi memiliki lebih banyak kesamaan dengan varian BA.2. Kedua varian mengandung substitusi asam amino L452R, F486V, dan R493Q dalam spike receptor binding domain dibandingkan dengan BA.,’ katanya dilansir dari ugm.ac.id.
